June Events Across Lake Country & Beyond: Your Summer Kickoff Guide
June is when cottage country wakes all the way up. The docks are in, the patios are open, and the calendar fills up fast. Whether you're a year-round local, a weekender, or someone still deciding whether this is the summer you finally make the move, here are a handful of events worth getting out for this month — from one of Canada's sweetest festivals to a waterfront boat show right here at home.
Orillia In-Water Boat Show
June 12–14 · Port of Orillia
The unofficial start of boating season. Climb aboard boats in the water, browse marine vendors and exhibits, and enjoy food and entertainment right on the Orillia waterfront. A perfect first outing of the summer, whether you're shopping for a boat or you just love being near the water.
Ontario's Best Butter Tart Festival
Saturday, June 13 · Downtown Midland (9 a.m.–5 p.m.)
Canada's original and largest butter tart festival is back along the shores of Georgian Bay, with hundreds of vendors and food trucks and more butter tarts than you can count. Raisins or no raisins, runny or firm — bring an appetite and settle the debate for yourself. Admission is free and it's wonderfully family-friendly.
Kawartha Sun Run
Sunday, June 14 · Fenelon Falls
A scenic run along the Victoria Trail with half-marathon, 10K and 5K distances, starting near Garnet Graham Beach Park. A great excuse to spend a morning in one of the prettiest little towns in the Kawarthas — whether you're racing or just there to cheer.
National Indigenous Peoples Day
Sunday, June 21 · Across the Region
June 21 marks National Indigenous Peoples Day, celebrated in communities across cottage country with music, storytelling, food, and cultural events. Huntsville's River Mill Park has long been a gathering spot. It's a meaningful way to learn, connect, and honour the First Nations, Inuit, and Métis heritage woven through this region.
Christmas in June
Saturday, June 27 · Port of Orillia
A little festive fun in the summer sun — holiday-themed vendors and seasonal spirit on the Orillia waterfront. Quirky, charming, and a fun one to bring the family out for.
Bill's Insider Take
June is my favourite month to show people around this part of Ontario. The weather's turned, the towns are buzzing, and you get to see these communities at their absolute best. If you've been thinking about buying up here, come spend a weekend at one or two of these — there's no better way to get a real feel for a town than to stand on its main street on a busy Saturday. And if you'd like a local's read on which communities might suit you, you know where to find me.
However you spend it, I hope June gets you outside and out on the water. If you're new to the area or thinking about making it home, these events are the perfect way to start feeling like a local — and I'm always happy to point you toward the corners of this region most people never find.
